Biking at Ohiopyle

Ohiopyle offers a variety of beautiful trails for biking. There’s the Youghiogheny River Trail which stretches 27 miles through the length of the park and the Sugarloaf Mountain Bike Area offers some single track trails; in fact, the Sugarloaf trail is one of the steepest mountain bike climbs in Pennsylvania. Starting from the end of the parking area at the train station (elevation 1200 feet), it climbs up to Sugarloaf Knob at an elevation of 2,640 feet. There’s also a great little single track trail 3 miles downstream from the train station on the Youghiogheny River Trail. Jonathan Run is left of the trail and turns into Sugar Run which climbs 2 miles up to Mitchell Field. Rocky, fun, and with some great views of mountain streams, the Jonathan/Sugar Run single track trail is a must see if you’re a mountain biker. See the picture below for a view of the trail from one of the bridges taken in the fall of last year.
